My mom says you used to take pictures of her…
I knew that one day, there would be a time when a model would mention that I knew her mother for the simple reason that I have done this for as long as someone's lifetime, 30+ years.
The first time was in the mid or late 2000s. I was photographing the current Miss Guam Universe, and yes, I did photograph her mother at one time when I was first starting my photography career.
I have photographed about five models, whose mothers I also photographed., I have also shot another model whose dad modeled for me previously. Some would say it's almost time for me to hang up my camera.
I will eventually, though not anytime soon; I love what I do too much. Though there have been several instances where this has occurred, one mother-daughter duo comes to mind, Skye and her mum, Laurel.
The mother, I photographed in the 90s with my Nikon F3 here on Guam and the daughter with my Fujifilm, X-T4 in Hawaii. Both are similar, obviously, and love being in front of the camera, and both photograph very well.
Another aspect of being able to photograph the child of a model I previously photographed is probably the sentimentality of it all, the realization that I did have a good run with my photography, and though I still have a bit to go, I am closer to the end than the beginning.'
This realization makes me feel more motivated to create something memorable. Previously, I had a phrase I liked to use. It was 'images that make a difference' and 'images that last a lifetime.' That is truer now than ever; I want to be able to create memorable visuals.
