National Bikini Day, yes its a thing.
Happy Friday All! I didn't think there was such a day either. This date is referred to as National Bikini Day because it's when French designer Louis Reard debuted a two-piece bathing suit named bikini because of the tests taking place at Bikini Atoll.
The bikini has taken many styles and shapes, but its consistent nature is a two-piece iteration. It is a fashion mainstay on many beaches and poolside, with various shapes, colors, forms, and materials.
Today, thousands of bikini and swimwear companies cater to bikini lovers, all vying for your dollar. Because we live on a tropical island, it is even more apparent.
For photographers or those looking to become photographers, doing a bikini shoot is the most accessible subject to photograph. Most of my personal work is bikini work; it can be done especially when just starting out, learning a new style, practicing, or trying out new gear!
In terms of gear, a camera with a lens is all you need to get started—well, that and a model in a bikini, of course. In the not-so-distant future, I will be posting a video that explains step-by-step how I find a model, create a schedule, choose outfits, do makeup, and actually head out on the shoot. Keep an eye out for that!
