Adding video to my workflow

Though I've been a stills photographer for quite a while now, I have a background in video. I was a grip for a video company and did what any grip did. I also edited videotapes, etc., back in the day. Fast-forward to today. These days, cameras are very video capable, some shooting open gate at 6K and others up to 8K, even though most monitors can't display that much yet.

Even though I left that world in the late 1990s, my fascination with video was always a part of me. When I got my first digital camera, I dabbled a bit, but this was a completely new way to shoot and edit videos, so I had to ease my way into it.

I wanted to talk about my transition into video, not necessarily wholly transitioning, so much as adding that to my repertoire of gig offerings. In doing so, I created a YouTube channel several years ago. Though I didn't pay much attention to it, I am now beginning to devote more time to creating for that platform.

My website is excellent for people who know it, know my blogs, and use it for that purpose. Still, I wanted to start sharing my knowledge and the challenges of getting into the video aspect of my craft.

The wonderful thing about cameras now is that you can use the same camera to shoot videos as you do stills; the controls are the same, but the process and how to shoot video differ.

Exposure is similar, but it's not; frames per second, or FPS, is one aspect that is not necessary to photography; ISO, Shutter Speed, & Fstop are familiar terms, and use is similar, and then there's a whole variety of terms I wasn't familiar with 1080p, 2k, 4k, 6k, open gate, resolution, shooting pro-res, LongGOP, et al.. Then, you want to add audio to your videos. In that case, you now have to be familiar with using microphones and what a whole host of terminology means. It's endless and can be very daunting.

I want to be your motivator to help bring you to video and your information for bringing all this to you, and I want to help you learn. At the same time, I refamiliarized myself with video and learned and shared with you what I have learned.
